My youngest child came out as a transgender female at 17, announcing it on Twitter. This revelation opened the door to a profound journey of understanding and support as we helped her navigate her struggles with dysphoria. I personally realized that I had much to learn about the essence of what it means to be a woman and the diverse experiences it encompasses. Each brushstroke in this series reflects this journey, embracing the complexities and beauty of womanhood. Breaking the colors down to a monochromatic palette with a red foundation grounded me and took me back to my days in figure drawing classes when I was first confronted with painting the human form in the nude. Through art, I aim to convey not only my growth but also the deep love and acceptance that flourishes in the face of change.
