Water Lilies
In 2019, upon learning that Fondation Claude Monet would host their final Artist's Hours at the end of the season, I felt a compelling urge to immerse myself in that world one last time. I quickly purchased a ticket to France and reserved a week dedicated to capturing the essence of Monet’s water gardens. Each day, I set up my easel by the iconic lily pond, painting delicate watercolor compositions that echoed the enchanting beauty surrounding me. I also captured numerous photographs of the tranquil waters, ensuring I had a wealth of images to draw from for my future works. That week became a profound journey, blending the immediacy of creation with the enduring inspiration found in Monet’s legacy.
Funny story, on a Friday evening when I was packing up to go back to our gite, the gardener was nowhere to be found. I was locked into the gardens. I thought, “Well, it certainly could be worse.” I was ready to sleep in Monet’s gardens. I had a cell phone with me and called the number for the Foundation, hoping someone would answer as it was 8:00pm in France. Luckily someone did and I was able to explain in my rudimentary French that I was an artist and locked in. The gardener came and rescued me.
